Case Study presented by:
Sami El Hadery – Executive Director & Co-founder, Tune Box
Bill Peltola – Vice President, Asia Pacific, Aviation, Inmarsat
Anaz Tajuddin – Group Head of Engineering, AirAsia
The Asia Pacific region is the fastest growing airline market in the world, and airlines in the region consideronnectivity an important tool to differentiate their services. But for certain segments of the market, the current connectivity offerings have presented a financial challenge. Many airlines have at least part of their fleet which focuses on short haul routes, which may not be suited to “full broadband” inflight connectivity. The growing low cost carrier market sees this challenge. This case study will present a partnership that developed an onboard connectivity option which, for a very low price per flight, allows passengers access to the most popular services in the region, including text messaging, IM, and social media.

Panel Moderated by: Al St. Germain – Publisher, Airline Passenger Experience Magazine
Panelists:
Jags Burhm – VP of Business Development, Asia & Asia Pacific region, Global Eagle Entertainment
Eddie Hsieh – Sr. Director, Global Communications Service, Panasonic Avionics Corporation
Terry Revnak – Regional Director of Sales, Gogo

Airlines thoroughly evaluate connectivity as a large player in their overall strategy. What are the limitations in the region? How do barriers affect strategy? How are passengers connecting and how often are they doing so? What hurdles need to be jumped to assure access? Hear from the players themselves - the leaders in the industry will further answer these and other questions.

The inflight connectivity market in China is on the verge of becoming the largest in the world. It is one of, if not the highest profile markets in the IFE/IFC industry today. Although most of the selections are yet to be made, virtually all the Chinese airlines have acknowledged the need to add connectivity to their aircraft. They are now analysing the various options, and this puts them in perfect position to take advantage of the very latest technologies. The size of the Chinese market, along with passenger requirements which are unique to China, will drive new technologies and applications within the IFC industries. This will create new opportunities for system and service providers, and we are just beginning to get an indication of how this will play out.

Wireless IFE & Portable Devices
Portable IFE systems (re-purposed, purpose-built and consumer products) are currently in vogue with many airlines trialling or installing systems in their fleets. In parallel some airlines have been introducing wireless streaming of content to airline supplied and/or passenger PEDs. What has the reaction been from the market? Are these systems delivering the expected performance? Have wireless system/service suppliers demonstrated to the studios that they have the required output protection to gain early-window release movies for streaming to both airline and passenger devices?
